Emergency Response

Operations (Ops) – Suppression

Fire trucks at night responding to a large blaze with smoke and flames visible among trees.

The Operations Division maintains a professional level of operational readiness as Firefighters, Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Hazardous Materials First-Responders/Technicians, and Technical Rescue Specialists responding to “all hazards” in the community. Personnel must be prepared for fires, explosions, trauma/medical-related incidents, hazardous materials releases, transportation-related accidents, natural and man-made disasters, weapons of mass destruction (WMD), and the rescue of trapped victims. This division also responds to a wide array of non-emergency calls for service, including odor investigations, securing downed wires, and other public assistance requests.

CCFD operates seven Engine Companies and one Truck Company out of seven fire stations and cross-staffs one Heavy Rescue. Our daily staffing consists of one Battalion Chief, eight captains, and 17 firefighters on duty to provide fire, EMS, and rescue services to our approximately 70,000 residents and visitors. Each company serves as an Advanced Life Support (ALS) first response unit as part of the San Mateo County Pre-Hospital Joint Powers Agreement, which allows cities in San Mateo County to provide the closest ALS response across city boundaries.
